Three versions of the song were recorded and released in 1968, all during sessions for the Beatles' self-titled double album, also known as the White Album: a slow, bluesy arrangement titled Revolution 1 that would make the final cut for the LP an abstract sound collage titled Revolution 9 that originated as the latter part of Revolution 1 and appears on. The Beatles is the ninth official album by the English rock group The Beatles. Lyrics: Ah, take 18. OK You say you want a revolution Well you know We Beatles - Revolution 1994. Revolution 9 is a recorded composition that appeared on the Beatles' 1968 eponymous LP release popularly known as The White Album. Lennon said he was trying to paint a picture of a revolution using sound. The recording began as an extended ending to the album version of Revolution. Lennon then combined the unused coda with numerous overdubbed vocals, speech, sound effects, and short tape loops of speech and musical performances, some of which were reversed. By the time of the 1968 White album, The Beatles were splintering and essentially turned the sessions into a series of solo recordings with the rest of the band members acting as session musicians. It contains some brilliant music including Lennons caustic Happiness is a Warm Gun and McCartneys civil-rights hymn Blackbird and at least a sides worth of filler sonic collage Revolution 9 juvenile Why Dont We Do it in the Road blues parody Yer Blues and the music hall pastiche of Honey Pie. The album's 14 tracks as well as the Paperback WriterRain single recorded at the sessions but released earlier in May all head straight into this brave new direction. It's the first rock album that was really put together as an entire piece. Frank Sinatra had been exploring the concept for more than a decade, but most pop and rock artists were still in the mindset that singles guided sales, and LPs were afterthoughts in the marketplace. Other artists played around sparingly with production tricks before, but the Beatles dive in head first here. And they emerge with a piece of pop-music history that altered the course of how records were made from then on. The Beatles recorded three versions of Revolution, from an all-out rocker to an abstract collage, capturing the chaos and unrest of the summer of 1968. But the resultant song, which appears on the album, was deemed too slow by Paul and George to be released as a single, so on 9 July, a faster, heavier version was taped, with wildly distorted guitars and pounding drums. This was the version released as the B-side to Hey Jude. In early 1971, John explained, On the one I released as a single, we did it in a much more commercial style and I left out the count me in. With Revolution 1 in the can, John set about creating the longest track in The Beatles catalogue Revolution 9. Revolution was John Lennons response to the popular calls for uprising in the US and Europe. It was a revision of a version already recorded for the White Album, and became the b-side of the Hey Jude single. Although taped after Revolution 1, this faster, louder version was the first to be released. I wanted to put out what I felt about revolution
