On that note, Suuns' Images Du Futur is indeed a derivative record, but in a paradoxically unique way that doesn't allow the typical mitigating circumstances to be considered. The Montreal band doesn't recall a specific era of music, nor do they remind one of the kind of band so ingrained in the culture that they're basically public domain. This is something far more weird: on their debut Zeroes QC, Suuns occasionally sounded like Clinic, a band that is still functioning and wholly idiosyncratic, in between extended bouts of electronic, psych-prog freakouts. Album 2013 10 Songs. More By Suuns. Sophomore follow-up Images du Futur is an entirely more cohesive synthesis of the heavy and the spare, with the band creating both space and dramatic tension within even their most driving songs. Tracks like 2020 draw on various styles and elements without becoming cluttered, even when a wobbly, near-dubstep electronic bass pulse is the backdrop for guitar lines that shift between skronky no wave slides and shimmering, ghostly tremolo. Suuns Images Du Futur Secretly Canadian. Out Now. Canadian Band Suuns released their second album this week, Louder Than Wars Adrian Bloxham is deeply unsettled by the resulting sound. If this is Suuns vision of where we are heading, their image of our future, its too frightening for words. Theres no explosion, no out and out focal point, just a feeling of dread and fear that escalates as the music flows around and over you. The future isnt bright at all, the future tastes of crumbled concrete dust under a gun metal sky. Suuns come from Montreal and this is their secon. Band Name Suuns. Album Name Images du Futur. Music Won't Save You Images du Futur builds upon the intensity of Suuns' 2010 debut, but often does so through new textures and subtler dynamic maneuvering. Album standout Edie's Dream begins with a single bass line repeated from which layers build & rise - first drums, then a wash of white noise echoes of guitar, then chanted vocals. The song's clever shifts are jazz-touche. Suuns, a band from Montreal that is signed to the independent record label Secretly Canadian, makes synth-heavy indie rock. Those last four words alone are surely enough for someone to begin imagining how this band might sound, but that person would likely be imagining it all wrong. Suuns dont write catchy, pop hooks nor do they have huge, anthemic choruses. Everything on Images Du Futur feels so polished and tweaked to perfection. Nothing ever sounds out of place, and not a second is wasted. This isnt to imply that their debut was lacking in focus or direction. Images Du Futur lacks the structural rigor and focused ideas of , which prevents the album from having a strong impact. Genre: Post-Punk. Images Du Futur is exciting in a way that few albums manage to be, dangerous and compelling like a first cigarette or fumbled sexual encounter, and nothing here quite seems real: these ten tracks exist in a half-light, a nocturnal fog a step removed from lucid thought. And a long, long way from anything routine
