Pink Floyd were an English rock band formed in London in 1965. Gaining a following as a psychedelic band, they were distinguished for their extended compositions, sonic experimentation, philosophical lyrics and elaborate live shows, and became a leading band of the progressive rock genre. They are one of the most commercially successful and influential groups in popular music history. Eclipse is the tenth and final track from British progressive rock band Pink Floyd's 1973 album, The Dark Side of the Moon. It was written and sung by Roger Waters, with harmonies by David Gilmour and Rick Wright. After Waters left the band, Gilmour sang the lead when performing live. This song was one of several to be considered for the band's best of album, Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd. It was written and of Eclipse. Aeons ov Frost. The album was very nearly called Eclipse. From the beginning, the band had intended to call their new album Dark Side of the Moon a reference to lunacy, as opposed to outer space but when British heavy blues rockers Medicine Head released an album of the same name in 1972, it caused the Floyd to rechristen their project as Eclipse. We werent annoyed at Medicine Head, Gilmour told Sounds magazine. Floyd fans were first treated to Dark Side of the Moon in concert more than a year before the album was actually released. The members of Pink Floyd often spent their downtime during the Dark Side. Most 'Pink Floyd fans' don't even know the last eight albums that came before Dark Side. Whether or not this is their best album, or the best album of all time, is something I'm not even going to start. It's not my favorite Floyd record, I'll be honest with you. But, even from a neutral approach, I can't deny that this record is every bit as great as it's said to be. It opens on a heartbeat, and we hear snippets of the album's themes in the form of sound effects. The wailing bridges Speak to Me to Breathe, which is a calming interlude between the nightmarish birth sequence to the harsh realities of the rest of the album. Although it had a rather obvious title and a brief running time of about 90 seconds, End made the most of its position as a thematic finale. After inhabiting the mind on Brain Damage which was then called The Lunatic Song , Roger Waters pans to a widescreen view of existence. The song was as obvious in its design as it was all-encompassing. Twenty-three of the compositions 24 lines feature either the word all, everyone or everything. In addition, Waters retraces the notions of the entire album, beginning Eclipse with And all that you touch, And all that you see nearly a replication of a line in Breathe. by Pink Floyd. Album: The Dark Side of the Moon 1973. Get the Sheet Music License This Song . songfacts . The working title for the Dark Side of the Moon album was Eclipse: A Piece For Assorted Lunatics. They began working on it during rehearsals for their concerts, and performed early versions live during shows in 1972. This was an era when bands could spend a year refining songs by playing them at concerts before heading into the studio. The clever part is that when they is no darkside of the moon after all, it's all dark. They're saying that we're all crazy. Only a theory.
