It's the London-based US artist's third LP, and the first since the 2013 releases Needs Continuum, for No Pain In Pop, and Kiki The Wormhole, for Opal Tapes. She previously brought her rough-and-tumble acid and techno to Don't Be Afraid with last year's Prophase Metaphase Anaphase Telophase EP. This time she has produced eight tracks grouped into pairs with call and response titles. It'll land on double-vinyl and digital formats in late June. The album was informed by Gwyer's live. Electronic experimenter unveils her New Roof. The new EP from Michigan-born, London-based artist Karen Gwyer arrives this week on No Pain In Pop, the label that released her excellent Needs Continuum LP last year. Billed as more mechanistic and weighty than that album, the techno-focused New Roof comprises three tracks, two of which Lay Claim To My Grub and the awkwardly titled Missisissipippi top out at over 16 minutes each. The former sees Gwyer in proper combat mode, laying slabs of synth over choppy, stuttering drums, while the latter is a moodier, darker cut. amazing ep!
however, have you guys mastered this for vinyl release? just got this 12" and it sounds bloody awful.
I swear that on spotify (and even on youtube) it sounds much better than on vinyl.
especially Missisissipippi suffers from extremely bad vinyl master, when the bass kicks in around 9:38 it's just a muddy noise.
great music, bad pressing...

Wow, super trippy sounds. Karen Gwyer is definitely someone to follow.

this ep is all about Lay Claim To My Grub!

Nice release.
