The Gilbert & Sullivan Festival Chorus And Orchestra: все альбомы, включая Highlights From The Pirates Of and Sullivan refers to the Victorian-era theatrical partnership of the dramatist W. Gilbert 18361911 and the composer Arthur Sullivan 18421900 and to the works they jointly created. The two men collaborated on fourteen comic operas between 1871 and 1896, of which . Pinafore, The Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado are among the best known. Gilbert & Sullivan: The Mikado. Robert Rounseville Nanki-Poo, Stanley Holloway Pooh-Bah, Groucho Marx Ko-Ko. For good measure, Groucho's daughter, Melinda Marx, plays Peep-Bo. Adapted for television by Martyn Green for the NBC Bell Telephone Hour. Broadcast April 29, 1960. This is a studio recording of that performance. Transferred and restored from the original Columbia mono LP OL-5480. Just what every G&S fan dreams of: an abridged Mikado with Groucho Marx in a starring role, NYC accent and all. Oh well, Groucho was probably the bait NBC used for viewers and he was a G&. Famous Melodies of Gilbert And Sullivan Operas - Harry Davidson and His Orchestra. Musically, this is a superb album. It is good to have Adams' famous portrayal of the Mikado in a splendid digital recording, and Suart, D'Oyly Carte's patter specialist at that time, is a superb Ko-Ko. Anthony Rolfe Johnson is a marvelous Nanki-Poo, and the veteran Richard Van Allan is a capable Pooh-Bah. Frankly, I dislike Gilbert and sullivan mostlly, bot not Mikado, and not this recording. Felicity Palmer is the BEST Katisha One could ever hope to hear-they were wise to get her. A real pip of a CD -beatifully sing and FUN . My other interest is Gilbert & Sullivan and in August 2005 I played the part of Nanki Poo in Sale G&S's production of The Mikado at the Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in Buxton. This album culls the overtures from eight of the complete works The Mikado, The Gondoliers, Patience, Iolanthe, The Pirates of Penzance, Ruddigore, . Pinafore, The Yeoman of the Guard, plus the overtures to The Sorcerer, Cox and Box, and Princess Ida, which Sargent recorded as filler for the other albums
