Steve Lacy July 23, 1934 June 4, 2004, born Steven Norman Lackritz in New York City, was an American jazz saxophonist and composer recognized as one of the important players of soprano saxophone. Coming to prominence in the 1950s as a progressive dixieland musician, Lacy went on to a long and prolific career. He worked extensively in experimental jazz and to a lesser extent in free improvisation, but Lacy's music was typically melodic and tightly-structured. Lacy also became a highly distinctive. Steve Lacy went to Vienna and made this somewhat strange recording with the then relatively unknown flugelhorntrumpet player Franz Koglmann. Strangely, Koglmann included Gerd Geier's electronics in the session at a time when few musicians and even fewer jazz musicians with the exception of Sun Ra were utilizing electronics. Lacy must have recognized budding talent. Bassist Toni Michlmayr and drummer Muhammed Malli are also heard here, playing again with Geier in 1976 on Opium For Franz Black Monk, 2019. Lacy's way with. This is not your atypical Steve Lacy recording that has the same lineup (Carter, Potts, Johnson, Irebi) that has recorded over and over and over again....sounding the same over and over again. There's actually some variety here. The electronics will make you feel like the album is screwed up or your Cat jumped on the Turntable....Good stuff for once from Mr. Lacy's repetitive sound.
