Sacramento punk-rap outfit Death Grips are known for starting frothing mosh pits with a style that seems in keeping with the hardcore-meets-hip-hop confluence that first ran through skate culture a few decades back. Exmilitary, their free mixtape, is a bludgeoning slab of hostility that plays like both sides of a circa-1987 Cro-Mags bw Just-Ice home tape bleeding through each other. Death Grips - Exmilitary. There are many emotions that can be associated with hip-hop. From the downright playful, to the gritty underground, the faces of hip-hop take on many sizes, shapes, and forms. The past year has seen the rise of shock-and-awe act Odd Future which has been making a name for themselves for their rather over the top songwriting and antics. I've always been told that this was only on vinyl and cassette... is this page legit?

Dark_Sun
Very raw sounding (sometimes too raw; but the distorted sound works to its advantage at times as well) and uneven in parts, but you can see the potential for an artist who could put out something greater in the future (not that one should sleep on this LP; it's definitely worth a listen and is a good intro into Mr. Grips's early sound).
