See Live is a concert in which Manzanera and Eno take center stage. The concert features a hard-driving Baby's on Fire, a really rockin' Miss Shapiro, and an electronic cover of You Really Got Me that will make you forget Van Halen and long for Ray Davies to jump on stage, treated guitar in hand. The music is subtle and yet this is definitely a hard rock album, if that term still means anything at all. Review Summary: 801 Live is one of the most original and perfectly executed live albums in prog, played by one of the most talented lineups the genre has seen. Right after the legendary band Roxy Music disbanded in 1976, its guitarist Phil Manzanera and keyboardist Brian Eno decided to form a side project with the idea of performing a few live concerts. The band would be called 801 in honor of Eno's song The True Wheel. 801 Live, 2011. Tomorrow Never Knows, 06:46. East Of Asteroid, 04:56. Sombre Reptiles, 03:56. Sombre Reptiles, 02:55. this is a little odd to see here, though i do in fact love this album. it's main connection to the electronic music scene is through brian eno, who wrote several of the tuned covered on this album. the band, however, is actually a british progrock group, mostly centered around roxy music guitarist phil manzanera. the music isn't really "ambient" but is of the same genre of artrock/fusion also made popular by, say, camel. that said, it's an amazing album, and its release on CD is heavensent for fans of this unique phase of both eno's and manzanera's careers. the other two important albums that fit into this period are quiet sun's "mainstream" and manzanera's "listen now", which features godley and creme, among others.
